Winning Blackjack Softly
In the game of blackjack when one is confronted with either splitting a pair or doubling down it does not guarantee a win. Even with a soft hand you can detect when to favorably stand and get an increase of your bet.
Since a player with a soft total of 16 which means an ace is being used for 11 the player will not bust and it is recommended that they take a hit to better their score. If you stand and the dealer busts, you win the same amount no matter what your total is. Whether it is 16 or less makes no difference.
For a player to stand on 16 it normally will result in a loss since the dealer has to hit 16 and stay on 17 and above. Staying on 16 is a strategy that many players use if the dealer is showing a low card up they will assume there is a 10 or face card down and they prefer the dealer to gamble on the next card and bust instead of themselves. This is a safe strategy but not always successful. Most experts do not recommend this action.
It is recommended that the player take a hit if in that same type of situation with other cards being held with an ace. Holding on an ace and 5, you improve your chance of a win or tie if you draw one of the following: ace, 2, 3, 4, 5. If you are holding 2 aces and two, you either win or get a tie if you draw 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or even 7.
There is a small possibility of losing when you draw a soft 17. If you stand and the dealer also has 17, then it is a tie and no change of money occurs. You are safe. If ever you draw a soft 17 do not convert it to hard hand that totals less than 17. This plus you on a bad position for the dealer might end up with exactly 17 causing a player to lose when holding the soft hand. A good player will normally make all soft hands better if they can by taking hits since they can not bust with only one additional card.
Thus if a player is sitting with that soft hand, and feels the need to hold by all means hold however, most experienced players will take a hit since busting will not occur. This means that they are taking the chance to improve their hand with another card when is it safe to do so.
Many times for the novice it takes will power to play additional cards when they feel safe. To become an even better player hitting soft hands is highly recommended since losing with one additional card will not occur. It is at the time of receiving another card the decision process becomes more difficult however, it is called gambling.
